February 25th, 2010

Yesterday the actors rehearsed while the rest of the class watched them.
The actors read from our latest script. While rehearsing, people had to add expression to their phrases and some had to try to say correctly ennuciate their text. Some modifications included :
-to inverse some lines in an order that made the script more easy to understand,
-added words or lines to certain parts of the script.

Examples of modifications to script :
" KM : Hey, I think they're in the bus! " changed to ...

" KM : Hey, I think the aliens are in the bus! "

" BX : Oh my gosh! ... "

" BX: Oh my god! ... "

The Most Recent Script.

On Wednesday, February 17, we made a read through of the script and made several modifications. On Thursday, February 18, Trikxye brought in the new modified script. It's not the final script, there ar more modifications to do but for now..

Scene 1: Getting on the bus.

1. SFX: Wind
2. SFX: Bus Engine
3. EX: Yay! It’s finally here! It’s THE day of our lives! It’s
February 11th! It’s the day of our ski trip!
4. KM: Beatrix! Catch this snowball!
5. SFX: Snowball Splat
6. BX: Kallum! My makeup! My hair! You ruined it!
7. SC: Why did you throw a snowball at her, loser?
8. ML: Get in the bus you guys! We are going on our ski trip.
Since I’m the only teacher who volunteered, I’ll be
Driving the bus… I have a license.
9. KIDS: Yay! We are going to Stone Ham!
10. BX: Last seat’s mine!
11. SC: Hey Beatrix, look at that Kallum in our seat.
12. BX: I know Scarlet. Move out of that seat Kallum. Immediately.
13. KM: No. I was here first. I refuse.
14. BX: I said it first. So move it. Nerd.
15. SC: Ha-ha. Yeah. Nerd. (Pause) Good one Beatrix.
16. BX: It wasn’t meant to be funny, Scarlet.
17. SC: Sorry.
18. KM: But I was here first!
19. BX: And I said it first! Mr Lafleur! Kallum took my seat.

Sunny day. It will be a very nice day.
37. SFX: (Forecast) No snow, no rain, a beautiful day.

39. SFX: Radio Broadcast on Aliens: Aliens are invading
Trois-Rivières! Run while you still can!
40. BX: Stay on that channel Mr.Lafleur!
41. SC: Hey isn’t that the guy that scared a whole town?
42. KM: His name is Orson Welles.
43. SC: As if we care.
44. BX: Actually, we do.
45. ML(INT): I’m really not feeling too well.

Scene 2: Heart Attack!

1. KM: Are you alright Mr.Lafleur?
2. ML: Yes, my arm is just a little sore… there is a lot of snow
Today. Is this going to be your first time skiing?
3. KM: Yes, there is no snow where I come from,
4. ML(INT): How am I supposed to see where I am driving with all this
Snow? It’s strange, they didn’t predict a snowstorm…
5. KM: Mr Lafleur! Mr. Lafleur! We are heading towards a…
Ditch!
6. ML: Hang on kids!
7. SFX: Bus Crash sound
8. KM: Mr. Lafleur!! He is dead!
9. SFX: Final Breath
10. BX: No you idiot, he’s breathing.
11. SC: I don’t want to disagree with you, but… I think it was his
Last breath.
12. BX: I knew it…
13. SC: I should have guessed that you knew… So what do we do
Now?
14. BX: It’s simple, all we have to do is…*nervous giggle*… we
Just need to…
15. BX(INT): What do I say? What should we do?
16. KM: Someone call an ambulance!
17. BX: And why would anyone listen to you?
18. SC: Yeah, why?
*PAUSE*
19. BX: So, let’s call an ambulance.
20. SC: Good idea Beatrix!
21. BX: I know. Thank you!
22. KM: Oh really, we don’t even know where we are. Besides,
Nobody here has a cellphone.
23. SC: Beatrix has one.
24. BX: I’ll be back, I’ll go outside to get a signal. I’ll be back.

Scene 3: Aliens!

1. BX: Oh my gosh! Guys! There really are aliens out there!
2. SC: I’m sure you just saw… aliens?!
3. SFX: Alien spacecraft.
4. KM: Quick! Everyone hide under the seats!
5. SC: Nobody ever asked you your opinion.
6. BX: Kallum’s right! Hide under the benches!
7. EX: Great idea Beatrix, you’re so smart!
8. SFX: Door lasered open.
9. SFX: Wind
10. SFX: Quick little footsteps
11. KM: Hey, I think they’re in the bus!
12. EX: Be quiet! Shut you’re mouth! Yeah right Kallum!

13. SC(INT): I hope they’re hot, I need a boyfriend.
14. Sid: Greetings Earthlings. My name is Sedo, and this is my
Partner, Sid. We come-
15. Sedo: Wait Sedo, There are children in here…
16. SC: We’re thirteen, we’re teenagers!
17. Sid: Forgive him. We are dumping snow on your planet because
We are having global cooling on Mars.
18. BX: Global Cooling?
19. Sedo: Yes, global cooling. Our planet is very cold… too cold…
We will all freeze if we don’t get rid of the extra snow and
Ice.
20. KM: Well, you can’t dump your snow on our planet, you don’t
Have the permission.
21. BX: What will you give us in exchange?
22. KM: How about a trip to Stone Ham?
23. EX: Yeah, bring us to Stone Ham!
24. Sid: Okay. Fine. That will take us two minute in our spaceship.
Come on Sid, we have a bus load of students to transport to
Stone Ham!
25. Sedo: You mean that these creatures, I mean kids, are coming in
Our spaceship?!
26. SFX: Teleporting( Humming of Spaceship + three teleporting
Sounds)
27. BX: Oh my gosh Scarlet! We’ve just been teleported into their
Spaceship. I so have to update my Facebook right away.
28. KM: Since that took so fast, can you take us to a bigger
Mountain?
29. SC: I know! Why don’t we go where the Olympics are held?!
30. BX: You mean Whistler Host!
31. Sedo: As long as you let us dump the snow on-
32. Sid: Sure. Come on, whatever to make you guys happy.
33. KM: Have you ever been skiing?
34. Sedo: What?

Scene 4: Arrival at the mountain!

1. SFX: Spaceship Landing
2. Sid: Attach your seat belts kids, we’re about to land on the peak
Of Whistler.
3. SC: Thank you for all your help.
4. BX: Hey, I always thought aliens were nerdy, but you guys are
Fine.
5. Sid: Here is all the snow for that mountain, looks like Whistler
Really needed it. Have fun skiing!
6. KM: We sure are lucky to have the chance to try out the
Mountain before the Vancouver Olympics start tomorrow.
7. Sedo: Have a lousy day.
8. Sid: Don’t listen to that Sedo, he’s a mean alien, so, have a good
Time skiing.
9. SC: Well, you guys could come skiing with us, if you want…
10. BX: Or are you too busy?
11. Sedo: We are in a hurry now!
12. Sid: What are you talking about Sedo? We are in no hurry.
Maybe a little fun would be good for you.
13. KM: Hey, I’m tired of waiting here, let’s get ready to hit the
Slopes!
14. BX: Let’s get out of here!
15. SFX: Teleported out
16. SFX: Quick little footsteps + normal footsteps.
17. BX: Hey guys, look at the thermometer over there, it says that
It’s 12 degrees Celsius.
18. SC: I didn’t expect it to be so warm on the top of Whistler.
19. KM: I always thought it snowed at the peak of mountains
Not that it rained.
20. Sid: Maybe your global warming problem can be fixed with our
Surplus of snow and ice. Then, our global cooling problem
Would be fixed at the same time.
21. SC: Hey you guys, are you coming?!
22. Sedo: Wait up! We’re coming alright!

Mr. Goldman's Visit on February 18

Mark D. Goldman, a producer, gave us a visit yesterday. He showed us how the recorder worked and tested it with the class by doing a part of our script. It was Scene 1.

He also explained us about sound and how much it was important.

Marc had a record and showed us with a needle and a paper in shape of a cone that we could play the recorder by making the sound

passed by the cone. He talked about

history and sound and made it

very interesting by making people try

things and showing examples.

Foley and Sound Effects :

- Heart Attack Group ( Julien C-R, Nicholas S, Noemie and Alex P ) are done and have put everything together.
-They have the heartbeeat sound and the beep sound.
-They also have the car crash and probably the echo sound.
-Sound Effects Found : - space shuttle ,
- bus crashing , ( Alex P )

- bus pulling away ,

- radio ( background ) music ,
- Thin Lizzy- The Boys Are Back in Town

Researchers :

-Researched about Mount Whistler, where it is situated and how much time it takes to drive from Three Rivers to Vancouver.
-Also researched on the average temperature of Mount Whistler.


Actors :

-Matthew helped writers with the arriving at the hill and gave writers lines to how the humans could describe the aliens.
-Actors looked for sound effects.

Researchers activity this week


On Monday and Wednesday the researchers researched on the heart attack we also researched on the Whistler host mountain and more...


On Thursday the researchers searched a little more because the people that were writing the heart attack scene and the actor that is doing that scene needed more information so they printed out a little more about how it felt to have a heart attack and where the pain was…

Researchers will be officially done at the same time as everybody.

Hi Florence, Millie and Mark!!

Our scripting is in the works....bloggers are busy as well....Foley artists are having fun with sound effects...everyone is intermingling with one another to share ideas and ask each other questions.

Sometimes writers need to go ask one of the aliens, the bus driver or one of the students on the ski trip to come to the script writing area to say a few lines in their own way. It is, as you said, a very organic process.

One of the things I did to move along the script-writing a bit more quickly was to set up brainstorming groups with one writer in each group and then some of the other students with him/her; then each of those groups was responsible for coming up with a first draft (pencil/paper)of an assigned scene.
Assigned scenes:
Getting on the bus (Feb. 11)
Bus ride before the storm starts
(dialogue between students)
(driver listening to radio stations-Orson Wells & weather forecast)
Sudden snow storm and bus crash...heart attack
Alien spaceship noticed outside bus...aliens enter bus and interact with students
Students embark on spaceship...discuss where they are going
Spaceship takes them to Whistler
Then, the writing team would at least have some material pencilled down on paper to start with when heading to the computer. It worked quite well. I have one student who is the captain of each team (Foley, writers, researchers, etc.) who are in charge of co-ordinating and gathering and dispatching jobs.

All in all, the past few days have been truly delightful to observe.
Question: What do I do with my googledocs account? Is that where the writers should be sending the script? Can they send things directly to it or do they need to send to me and then I can put things up on it? I have never really worked with that before so I am a bit lost.

What Do We Remember ?

Here is what our crews remember from the day Millie and Florence visited us:

We are the actors,
We remember that our task is to provide information for the writers. When the script writers don’t have ideas. We improvise the scene to give them ideas. They will get the real expressions that teenagers would usually express. We have a very important to the group and the others do too. This project is going to be FUN!

Anthony D.: I remember making the story board and when Millie explained the types of characters.
Alex C.: I remember the story board.
Alex P.: I remember everything she said.
Victor M.: I remember the machine was worth 5000$. I think they say this to scare us and be careful.
Joel: We have to have a lot of sound effects.Anthony E.: I remember talking about the 5 tasks ( bloggers, foley and sound effects, writers, researchers and actors).
Anthony D.: We need write a good play bank of sound effects.

We are the script writers.
What we remember from Thursday’s session is :-we created a storyboard,-Millie explained what each groups’ job was,-Millie taught us how tthout making it confusing, -we learned how to do thoughts (subtexts),-we learned how to create characters.Sincerely , The script writers.

-The Researchers are all done researching what all the teams asked them to research.
-Writers are almost done Scene 1-Scene 2.
-Sound Effects: Talking about the discussion of aliens and kids.
-Actors are writing the end Scene.
-Script Writers are writing scene 3 where aliens arrive.

Characters

Aliens:
- Sid (Matthew)
Personality: Is nice with kids and has a transparent white skin ( as well as Sedo and Spitter)
- Sedo (Martin)
Personality: Doesn’t like adults and likes to pay tricks on kids and pretends to like kids.
- Spitter (Nicolas Simoneau)

Students and Bus driver / Teacher:
- Kallum (Brandon)
Personality: Rejected boy, Imported from Afghanistan, has an accent, is nerdy and shy, and doesn’t freak out when aliens come (stays in his own corner).
- Beatrix (Jessica Garant)
Personality: Is mean, snob and is a bossy blonde, fussy about appearance, the popular girl, is spoiled and rich, is scared when aliens come.
- Scarlet (Cindy)
Personality: Is naive, Beatrix's best friend, is stupid
-Mr. Lafleur (Nicolas Simoneau)
Personality: Bus driver and teacher, is grumpy, likes kids but doesn’t show it
